Originaria del sud-est asiatico, vive in ambienti umidi di acqua dolce come paludi, acquitrini e risaie, fino a 500 m di altitudine.

Size

Il carapace può raggiungere i 25 cm di lunghezza.

Behavior

Principalmente notturna, di giorno si rifugia tra i detriti ai margini dei corsi d’acqua. I giovani conducono vita maggiormente acquatica rispetto agli adulti.

Reproduction

La femmina depone in media 2 uova tre volte l’anno.

Diet

Prevalentemente erbivora, si alimenta sia in acqua sia sulla terraferma prediligendo insetti, molluschi, crostacei e piante acquatiche nel primo caso e vegetali, semi, funghi e vermi nel secondo.

Threat Level

Negli ultimi anni ha subito un rapido declino a causa soprattutto della caccia a scopi alimentari e per l’uso nella medicina tradizionale cinese, e della raccolta degli individui per il mercato degli animali da compagnia.
