Distribution and Habitat:

È diffusa in parte del Sud America a est delle Ande; dalle foreste tropicali alle savane.

Raggiunge anche i 50 cm di lunghezza del carapace.

Specie timida e schiva, è attiva soprattutto di giorno.

Più volte l’anno, la femmina depone in un nido nel terreno da 2 a 15 uova che schiudono dopo 4-5 mesi.

Si nutre principalmente di frutti e fiori, ma anche di fogliame, suolo, funghi e carogne.

Nel periodo riproduttivo i maschi emettono particolari richiami per attrarre una compagna e allontanare possibili competitori.

Non se ne conosce lo stato di conservazione in natura.
