Distribution and Habitat:

Deserti con vegetazione sparsa e cespugliosa delle coste del Nord Africa, dalla Libia a Israele.

Size

È una delle testuggini più piccole al mondo e non supera i 15 cm di lunghezza.

Behavior

Diurna, è attiva soprattutto la mattina presto. Trascorre le ore più calde della giornata e la notte al riparo tra la vegetazione, le rocce o in gallerie sotterranee scavate da altri animali.

Reproduction

Tra aprile e giugno la femmina depone fino a 3 covate di 1-3 grosse uova in una piccola buca del terreno. La schiusa avviene dopo circa 4 mesi.

Diet

Vegetariana, può stare lunghi periodi senza bere ricavando l’acqua necessaria dalla rugiada o dal cibo.

The European studbook (ESB) is an inventory aimed at monitoring the status of individuals of a particular species in captivity and generally precedes the EEP.
