Vive in piccoli gruppi nelle aride distese australiane e nelle foreste di eucalipto.

Ha un peso tra i 14 e i 19 kg e una lunghezza di circa 1 m.

Per resistere alle temperature elevate è attivo soprattutto al crepuscolo, passando le ore più calde al riparo sotto i cespugli o gli alberi.

Partorisce embrioni molto piccoli che completano il loro sviluppo in una speciale tasca ventrale: il marsupio.

Si nutre di erba e cespugli.

Il canguro di Bennet usa la coda come un quinto arto durante l’andatura normale e come bilanciere quando corre saltando sulle zampe posteriori.

Viene ancora cacciato per la sua pelliccia e per la competizione con gli animali domestici, tuttavia la specie è molto comune e diffusa
