Conservation
The conservation of biodiversity is one of the main objectives of the Bioparco.
The Bioparco, in fact, is a member of EAZA European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, and is committed to active participation in national and international conservation projects both ex-situ and in-situ.
The conservation of biodiversity is essential because it is threatened by deforestation, poaching, pollution, illegal trade, habitat destruction and fragmentation, climate change, competition with invasive alien species.
These are just some of the factors that are straining the survival of species in their natural habitats.
For this reason, in a situation of such threat, the intervention of zoos, together with that of other organizations such as NGOs, is essential for the conservation of biodiversity.
The conservation of biodiversity is possible both thanks to actions in nature, conservation in-situ and thanks to programmes outside the natural environment, conservation ex-situ.
